My name is Charles, or Charuru as my japanese fellows would call me. I'm about to start my M2 at Darko Radovic's laboratory, Keio.

Obviously I'm French. Living in Yokohama for two years.
Before I began my urban studies in Keio last year, I've studied mathematics, physics and engineering for four years in France (Rouen and then Nantes for those who might know).I'm really happy to come and spend one week in Split. I hope we will have good time working and drifting in the city together!

I have worked in Shanghai and love China, so Darko-san sometimes calls me "Chinese guy", but I am not Chinese. I am pure Japanese. Don't misunderstand.

ReplyDeleteNever too late for breaking the ice through this impersonal means (which I'm sure will lead to more personal experiences once we set foot and explore the city). I am Rafael -RAFA it's enough- originally from Mexico City; have eventually lived there only 1/3 of my life, and the rest spread in many other spots of the world. So far Japan has been my host country for almost 5 years; I am currently enrolled in the PhD program (D2) at the University of Tokyo under the guidance of Prof. Kuma.
When trying to decode the city of Split being aware of the inability to do firsthand field work, I remember a book from Ruth Benedict named "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword", about decoding Japanese thinking during war times without being there (indeed the result was a wonderful social study in my opinion). Fortunately for us, today we are plenty of new sources to grasp information, but finally imagination remains as the main tool to draft any approach...plenty of possibilities and impossibilities for what a better city might become in the coming years.
It is my pleasure to participate at this workshop, looking forward to making the best of this unique experience.

We all are M1 students, and we are visitting Prague currently, to seeing around historical sight and architecture,,,,BUT, Mr Shinohara is almost dying as he got terrible cold here in Europe,,,,,
